A glass lamp from the 1950s and 1960s, recorded by the gallery as the work of Štěpán Tabery. The shape comes out of the glass itself — body and shade are of one material. Restored. Height 33 cm, width 25 cm, the largest of the three pieces on offer.
Glass lamps from a time when a light fitting was designed as a piece of the interior
Štěpán Tabery (born 1929 in Brno) trained at the glassmaking school in Železný Brod and worked as a glass designer at the national enterprise Osvětlovací sklo in Košťany near Teplice. His table lamps in layered opal glass are among the most recognisable Czech light fittings of the 1960s and 1970s.
Their hallmark is the use of three-layer opal glass — body and shade are of one material and the colour shifts depending on whether the lamp is lit. The press of the day wrote that the lamps were meant to give light rather than shade it, and to be an ornament of the room even when switched off.
The lamps were sold under the Osvětlovací sklo brand, with bases made by OPP Jihlava. Today they are sought after by collectors of Czech design.
